From the Secretary
The [Autumn] meeting has been organized in Coventry by your presdent elect, John Busby, from Friday 3rd to Sunday 5th September. You will see that is less frenetic than on some previous occasions giving more time to enjoy Coventry, its airport and aeroplane club, the ambience of Coombe Abbey Hotel and its grounds and of course each other's company. You are confronted by no major choices which will make filling in the enclosed application form a cinch. The full fee is £250/£355 per person with no extras.Andrew Clymo
From the President
A gustatory high point of this year was the St Emilion Grand Cru 1982 served at the French meeting at Royan. The enjoyment of this wonderful nectar had to be partially postponed until I had got my tongue round a few words of thanks and had issued our invitation to our hosts to visit us in Coventry. Also visiting Royan were Mary and Johnny Smith and Mike and Penny Bagshaw. The enjoyment however was tempered by the anxiety we felt on hearing the weather forecast for central England, i.e. Edgehill, where our informal meeting was due. I gather it wasn't quite as bad as we feared. Prior to this Diana and I together with the Fearnleys and Busbys had visited the German meeting at Weimar, the current cultural capital of Europe. It is a delightful town where we were left in no doubt that it had been the home of Schiller and Goethe. The town of course gave its name to the German Republic of 1919-32. We noted also the Bauhaus school of architecture and a signpost to nearby Buchenwald. John Busby may tell you how he managed to miss the Thuringer Bratwurst barbequed beside the runway at the designated arrival airfield!.To revert to the meeting at Edgehill, I was truly disappointed at being unable to attend as it was the exciting innovation of our BMPA's year and I am sure that something similar must be on offer next year.
Finally this is my opportunity to thank your secretary and the committee for all the hard work they do in running the Association. I look forward to the continuing pleasure of membership under the ebullient leadership of John Busby.
