About the BMPA

About the BMPA  >  About meetings

Several meetings are held throughout the year with an aeromedical theme including academic events and flying activities. The main meetings are in early spring and September and are held at various locations. Members are encouraged to bring guests to the meetings.

Other meetings are arranged throughout the year, involving a range of aviation related activities.

Spring Meeting

The spring meeting is the main academic meeting and various types of post graduate approval are sought, which traditionally have been granted. These have included CME, PGEA, and CAA approval. The spring meeting is an open meeting and you do not need to be a member of the BMPA to attend.

Summer Meeting

The summer meeting takes place between Friday and Sunday on an airfield with some other interest group. So far these have been at Edgehill (Shenington) with gliding and go karting on site and hot air balloons invited. The aim is to make this a cheap meeting. There is no booking and no fee. Members make their own accommodation arrangements. Camping and caravanning are encouraged. Please note that the summer meeting is for members and their guests only. Others may attend one summer/autumn meeting as a guest of the secretary.

Autumn Meeting

The September meeting is centred on an airfield and members are encouraged to fly in to this. As an incentive to encourage flying to the meetings, the Association subsidises airfield charges. There is a navigation competition for the Guinness Trophy. The rest of the programme is variable at the choice of the local organizer. It may include flying activities, academic events and visits to places of interest (aeronautical, medical or general). There is a Saturday evening dinner with alternatives for children. Venues differ giving members from different parts of the country equal opportunities to attend or display their talents. As with the spring meeting, pre booking and payment are required. Please note that the autumn meeting is for members and their guests only. Others may attend one summer/autumn meeting as a guest of the secretary.
